Australian Consumer Law

The Australian Consumer Law Group of the Legal Practice Section of the Law Council of Australia provides a forum for lawyers throughout the country to keep abreast of developments, and to canvass issues at a national level.
 

Role & Objectives

The Consumer Law Group takes an interest in legal developments affecting consumers generally, such as: superannuation, banking and finance, insurance, public health, personal injury and accident compensation.

The Group liaises with other government and non-government bodies involved in consumer law, including the Australian Plaintiff Lawyers Association, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, and the Consumer Affairs Advisory Council. The Group has a particular interest in the uniformity of consumer protection laws throughout Australia.
 

Benefits of membership

As a member of the Legal Practice Section, all group members receive the Section's quarterly journal, the Australian Law Management Journal, and receive discounted registration to all conferences seminars conducted by the Section.

Members of the Section have access to the members' section of the Law Council's website, including access to electronic newsletters, journals, and case flashes.

Members of the Section have access to a range of discounts and corporate plan agreements for domestic and international air travel and accommodation, and hire cars.
