International Human Rights Committee
The International Human Rights (IHR) Focus Group was first established in 2007, and was officially considered a Committee during the 2016 restructure.
The IHR Committee focuses on human rights issues and working with other organisations to support human rights efforts.
Ms Anne O’Donoghue, Co-Chair
Anne O’Donoghue is an accredited immigration law specialist and registered migration agent, with over 26 years of experience. She is the director and principal lawyer of Immigration Solutions Lawyers (ISL). Anne is acknowledged as one of Australia’s leading immigration law specialists.
Anne was admitted to practise in Victoria in 1981, in the High Court in 1982 and in NSW in 1987. In 1998, Anne received her Specialist Accreditation as an immigration lawyer from the NSW Law Society. In 2015, Anne was appointed as a member of the Specialist Accreditation Advisory Committee of the NSWLS. In December 2012, Anne was appointed as a member of the LCA’s International Law Section (ILS) Executive. Anne is an active member of the ILS Executive. On the 1 January 2019, Anne was appointed Co-Chair of the Immigration and Nationality Law Committee of the International Bar Association. Anne has been an IBA member since 2002.
In 2019, Anne was also appointed a member of the IBA’s Presidential Task Force on the Refugee Crisis Initiative, A Child Rights Response to Child Migration and Migrant Children at Risk. Anne was a Co-Moderator of the Showcase session which was presented at the 2019 IBA Conference in Seoul. On the 24 October 2019, Anne achieved a high commendation for the NSW Law Society’s Presidents Medal for her work on the IBA Presidential Taskforce in Seoul. Anne was also awarded the Lawyer’s Weekly Migration Partner of the Year Award in 2019.
Anne is also an experienced writer and co-authored the Australia Chapter of The Corporate Immigration Review, now in its 9th edition. Dr Martyn Taylor, Co-Chair
Dr Martyn Taylor is a corporate & commercial lawyer based in Sydney. He heads the telecommunications & media group, the international trade group, and the rail group in the Asia-Pacific. He is described as “smart, efficient, friendly”. Martyn’s practice covers transactional, contentious and advisory. He is a well known telecommunications, internet, media & technology (TMT), infrastructure, energy, competition & regulatory lawyer.
As well as holding a PhD in competition and international trade law, Martyn is a qualified economist and he holds a masters' degree in corporate finance (M&A, infrastructure, project finance, private equity, venture capital). He has published well over 100 publications, including the award-nominated book 'International Competition Law: A New Dimension for the World Trade Organisation?'.
Martyn has various board and management roles, including as President of the Communications & Media Law Association, and Treasurer of the International Section of the Law Council of Australia.
