2018 winner - Mr Mitchell Simmons, Principal Lawyer, Tern Visa and Migration Lawyers
After graduating from a double degree in Behavioural Science and Law from Flinders University, a stint volunteering with JusticeNet, and some time travelling the globe, Mitchell combined my passions for justice and travel into a career specialising in immigration law.
Over the years, he delved deeper and deeper into the nooks and crannies of Australian Immigration Law in order to seek out solutions for the unique circumstances facing each of my clients. Whether it be working closely with a couple or family struggling to find a way to be reunited in Australia, or fighting in Court against a visa cancellation threatening to tear a family apart, he strives to leave no stone unturned.
Drawing from this experience, Mitchell delivers training and seminars on a range of complex visa issues to other migration agents, communities, and industry groups. Mitchell serves on the board of the Refugee Advocacy Service of South Australia where he assists in managing the only community legal centre protecting the rights of Asylum Seekers in the state. When Mitchell is not immersed in 18 browser tabs of the Migration Act, he can be found making mudpies in the garden with his daughter.
