ILS International Arbitration Practice Course Lecture 4
The International Law Section (ILS) invites you to attend the International Arbitration Practice Course 2019 - Lecture 4, chaired by Mary Walker.
The ILS is privileged to have guest speakers Jo Delaney (Baker & McKenzie), Deborah Tomkinson (ACICA), Gitanjali Bajaj (DLA) and Anne Hoffman (HSF) present and speak on the topic of 'Support and supervision of the courts of the arbitration process'.
Support and supervision of the courts of the arbitration process
In this lecture, we will consider the interaction between the courts and arbitral tribunals, how the courts support and may provide assistance to the arbitral process and how they supervise the process. This will cover issues such as:
- stay of court proceedings
- interim relief / injunctions
- challenge of arbitrators
- challenge of an award - set aside proceedings
- enforcement of an award (and challenge to enforcement)

Jo Delaney is a partner in Baker McKenzie's Dispute Resolution team in Sydney. Jo has more than 14 years of experience as counsel in complex cross-border disputes based in Sydney and London, most of which were resolved through international arbitration.
Jo re-joined Baker McKenzie in 2013, having spent her first two years as a graduate lawyer in the Sydney office. In the intervening time, Jo developed her international arbitration experience at a preeminent arbitration practice London. Jo has experience in commercial, construction and investment arbitrations under the ICC, LCIA, SIAC, AAA, UNCITRAL and ICSID arbitration rules. That experience covers a diverse range of industries including energy, resources and infrastructure, general construction, and telecommunications and information technology.
Mary Walker has been at the forefront of ADR in Australia for the last 28 years. During this period, as a member of an independent Bar, Mary has arbitrated, mediated, negotiated, facilitated multi-party, environmental and community disputes, designed dispute resolution systems and provided expert appraisal and ombudsman services in respect to thousands of disputes referred by solicitors, industry and government bodies and corporations both domestic and international.
