New ASIC Chair
Congratulations to Joe Longo on his appointment to be the new Chair of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission. Joe has been a great contributor to the work of the BLS over many years. Prior to his recent appointment, he was the deputy chair of the Corporations Committee based in Perth, while working as a senior advisor to Herbert Smith Freehills.
Prior to returning to Herbert Smith Freehills, Joe had worked as General Counsel for Deutsche Bank in both London and Hong Kong for 17 years, dealing with regulatory issues and governance, among other issues. Prior to that, Joe was National Director, Enforcement at the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) in Sydney, where he was responsible for the national co-ordination and direction of ASIC’s enforcement and litigation activities from 1996 to 2000.
Joe is joined by Sarah Court as Deputy Chair. Sarah is no stranger to the BLS, having been a long-standing Commissioner at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and in that role is well known with members of the BLS Competition and Consumer Committee.
On behalf of all members of the BLS, we wish Joe and Sarah well with their new responsibilities.
