6th CPD Immigration Law Conference

The Immigration Lawyers Association of Australasia Focus Group (ILAA) will host the 2012 CPD Immigration Law Conference in Sydney on 9 & 10 March.  With a theme of "Current challenges-future trends", the aims of the Conference are to provide legal professionals with CPD points accreditation, to highlight and discuss important immigration law issues and to provide participants with a forum to exchange experiences.

The Conference will be held at the Royal Automobile Club of Australia, 89 Macquarie St, Sydney.

This year's Conference Dinner, to be held in Sydney's historic State Parliament Building, will feature a program of exceptional entertainment headlined by acclaimed Sydney comedian and author of The Happiest Refugee, Anh Do. The event, to be MCed by journalist and social commentator David Marr, will also include an address by Professor Ron McCallum AO on the World Report on Disability.   

Six CPD points are available for registered migration agents (subject to OMARA accreditation).

Topics to be discussed include:

  • Complimentary Protection Changes - A New Paradigm
  • Australia's Migration Program in a global context
  • Expressions of Interest and Skill Select
  • The growth of the 457 visa program and compliance regimes
  • Ethics for lawyer agents and the challenges of dual regulation
