All Australians should be entitled to access to legal advice and services. But government cut-backs mean very few of us will ever qualify for legal aid. What makes this situation worse is that a lot of people who do not qualify for legal aid are also unable to fund their own legal proceedings. The net result is that many Australians don't have ready access to the legal assistance they deserve.
This situation must change.
The legal profession is committed to ensuring all Australians have access to justice. It wants the Federal Government to address this issue a matter of urgency and dedicate funding to this much-needed area.
It is time that the Government realised that Legal Aid Matters!
