Criminal Law and Procedure

The Law Council engages in advocacy and policy development in relation to national criminal law issues of both a substantive and procedural nature. The Law Council addresses not just the content of criminal laws, such as the matters covered in the Model Criminal Code, but the procedures involved in implementation of such laws.

The Law Council also monitors the way that relevant Federal agencies such as the Australian Crime Commission implement legislative provisons, particularly those which give them extraordinary powers, such as in the area of serious and organised crime.
