Australian Young Lawyers Committee

The Australian Young Lawyers' Committee is a Standing Committee of the Law Council of Australia. The Committee represents young lawyers at a national level and seeks to promote the administration of justice, access to justice and development of the law.

The Committee is also responsible for the coordination of the Australian Young Lawyers Awards and the National Golden Gavel.

Members

Membership is drawn from the Law Council's constituent bodies and young lawyer organisations. Members must be admitted as a barrister and solicitor or as a barrister in any state or territory of Australia for a period of less than 5 years or is under the age of 36 years, whichever is the later. The Chair of the Australian Young Lawyers' Committee is appointed by the Law Council and occupies a position in addition to the members. If a position of Deputy-Chair is required by the Committee, the Deputy-Chair of the Committee is appointed by the Law Council and occupies a position in addition to the members.

Awards

The Australian Young Lawyers' Committee administers awards and events related to Australian young lawyers, including the National Golden Gavel and the Australian Young Lawyer Award.
