Reconciliation Action Plan

Reconciliation is of fundamental importance to the Law Council and to Australia's legal profession and I am immensely proud of the work the Law Council continues to
devote to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander affairs.

The Law Council's vision for reconciliation is to ensure relationships with Indigenous Australians are enhanced through improved knowledge and respect of their culture and through the provision of opportunities to improve education outcomes and career paths for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The development of this RAP is the beginning of a journey for the Law Council and the legal profession as a whole, toward making the profession culturally safer and more accessible for Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders.

The Law Council RAP seeks to provide practical measures to improve Indigenous participation in the legal profession and to promote understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in the legal sector.

The RAP is designed to contribute to reconciliation in three key areas - relationships, respect and opportunities.

The Law Council seeks to ensure through its everyday work the values of
equal opportunity, fairness and respect. The Law Council RAP will encourage the celebration of cultural differences, the sharing of different perspectives and experiences and improved relationships through which all Australians can move forward together.
