Australian Young Property Lawyer of the year award

Nominations are now open for the Australian Young Property Lawyer of the year Award. Nominations for the 2011 Award will close 31 January 2012 and must be emailed to gerard.oneill@lawcouncil.asn.au before close of business on 31 January 2012.

To be eligible for the award, a nominee must be:

  1. admitted to practice in any Australian jurisdiction (including private practice, government law firm, or in-house counsel) or an academic at an Australian university.

  2. under 35 years of age as at 31 December of the year of the award.

The key criteria for the award are:

  • Outstanding contribution to the field of property law in Australia or internationally;

  • Voluntary contribution to the community, especially in a property or property law context.

Nominations
The nominee can be either nominated by colleagues or self-nominated. The nominator should confirm that he nominee is aware of the nomination and willing to be nominated.

There is no specific nomination form. Nominations should be accompanied by educational qualifications and material to confirm eligibility, and must address the key criteria. All applications must be in total, not more than, 5 A4 pages or 2,000 words (including reference testimonials). Reading will cease after 5 pages and after 2,000 words.

Information regarding professional contribution should include employment history, publications and conferences attended, presentations and seminars. Information regarding contributions to property law outside of professional or paid employment can include work undertaken for community or not-for-profit organisations.

The nomination can include up to two references and testimonials. Testimonials could be provided by colleagues, clients to office bearers of community or not-for-profit organisations or government departments and should be included in the application.

Nomination process
The decision of the Australian Property Law Group National Committee shall be final. No correspondence will be entered into.

Presentation of award
The award will be announced in the next edition of the Australian Property Law Group Newsletter.
